I am planning to learn German i tired at high school and dropped it as a language. I have bought a Teach Yourself German book with CD.
I was wondering if anyone had used this and any key points to concentrate on.
Cheers J

Congratulations! I love German and I think it's a great language to learn. I use TY German alongside other resources and I think it has helped me a lot. It's very task-based though, so in order to revise you will be doing the same exercises all over again. So avoid writing them down on the book, use a piece of paper instead. Also it does not have much grammar, which is OK because it gives you a kick in vocabulary and practical stuff. But I recommend buying some grammar book, too. Good luck!

TY stands for Teach Yourself. As for a grammar book, I can't really help you because mine is in ...Greek! But check Routledge, it has got many a good grammar book, hasn't it.

TY=Teach Yourself
Any grammar book that explains most of what you're likely to read or hear (or want to be able to express) would do.

GermanJim: I recommend you download the free FSI German basic course from http://fsi-language-courses.org/Content.php?page=German
It's a bit outdated, but a very good course and with your Teach Yourself should be good enough to build a strong basic with the language.

I agree with Elvisrules. I just got the FSI Basic German Course and it's great! The drills are dense, but if you do them all, you will have a good grasp of the grammar and the language in general...
