Generally no... I learn it because I want the experiences that knowing a language opens

No, the main reason I want to learn languages is for travel or maybe to advance my career
in the future. That doesn't mean I don't enjoy the learning process, but in my opinion it would be a waste of time to learn a language I'd never use. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

I would, for the sake of intellectual pleasure. When I get done with the "important" languages, I think I'll study Lithuanian because that's the IE language closest to PIE apparently. I'd also study Zulu, and while I do want to visit South Africa I don't know how useful Zulu would be compared to Xhosa or Afrikaans. That's precisely what I do with all my languages (except Dutch*) all my life long. I have become a polyglot without travelling or having native speaker contacts. Most people would assume that it isn't possible to achieve that with my life circumstances. *I speak Dutch every day with my friend on the phone and I can travel to the Netherlands from time to time.
