I lost my wanderlust a long time ago and have no interest in travel, but I have plenty of interest in languages for their own sake, or, rather, for the sake of their literatures. Most of my language study is with older texts in Persian and Arabic, with some dabbling in Biblical Hebrew, Latin, Greek, and modern (!) Bengali. I have this idea about reading Rabindranath Tagore, whom I think of as a modern incarnation of the Classical Persian poets.

Riiiiiiiiiiiight.
I think you meant "which most Irish people don't speak". That's like saying the Basques don't speak Basque or Gallicians don't speak Gallician. "All" - "some" - "none"...?

Yes. I am learning Spanish, mainly just for fun and not for traveling or meeting Spaniards/Latinos.
Practically it is useless for me, for example if I really needed a career/CV booster I could better just study German instead. So my incentive to learn Spanish is purely recreational.

Yes, I would, actually.
Sometimes I just like writing in Spanish, not necessarily speaking it. I'm not much of a talker, anyway.

Yes, I am learning Afrikaans, Spanish, Finnish and Swedish. Spanish is the only one of those languages I could use without having to travel abroad. I hope to travel to South Africa, Finland, and Sweden but that won't happen soon.
