Some scientists reckon a couple of milliamps across the brain can speed your learning.
Luckily they don't include details on how to replicate the experiment -- I might otherwise have been daft enough to try it..... Edit: oops, the URL... http://www.technologyreview.com/Biotech/21007/. That doesn't really inspire my confidence. A few years ago I read somewhere that some fern seeds, when exposed to a static electric field, get kind of reset and will sprout plants that look like their ancestors of a million years ago. Quite amazing, but also spooky. If I use such a device I may one day start to swing on the hanging light. I don't want to mess with my brain. Even lucid dreams would frighten me. Maybe you do something stupid in your dream, screw up some subconscious settings, and when you wake up you think you're a chair or an airplane. Apart from that, when the device goes to production, they will probably want to keep the price low and finance it by advertising.
