There are free audio courses for Classical Latin available from itunes.
These courses are also available for free as a podcast from the
LATINUM website.
Course materials are extensive, and are aimed at fluency - Latinum was set up in
response to Latin becoming a language in danger of extinction, as a spoken medium. From
the fall of Rome, there have always been speakers of the language, and they have
transmitted their skill to one another. The number of fluent speakers is now
dangerously low - possibly only 40 or so, worldwide. Of these, many are over 60 years
old. Many thousands of students are now learning Latin orally using the Latinum course,
which has been online since early 2007.
Thus, Latinum provides a full audio course in spoken Latin ( excellent preparation for
reading Plautus, Terence, and renaissance theatrical works in Latin, of which there are
hundreds). This course has over 700 episodes, and is very complete.
In addition to this free course, two others are available - both only published online
in Nov this year. The first is an audio rendering of Benjamin D'Ooge's textbook, 'Latin
for beginners'. The second is more interesting, an audio version of Underwood's Latin
course for pharmacology and medical students. This is a course that has been out of
circulation for over 170 years. It is very well written, and is an excellent
introduction to Latin grammar - but all the examples deal with chemistry and medical
matters. If you have a scientific bent, you will enjoy using this course as part of
your studies.
All the texts have pdf versions available on google books or on archive.org
All these materials are also available on DVD for a very small price, if you don't want
to download them for free.
