A few years ago, siomotteikiru introduced her method of 'Listening-Reading'. I want to use this method for
learning German, but I am having horrible time trying to locate any English novel whose unabridged translation is
also available in German as well as its audiobook in German. I need about 2-3 novels (classics would be better, but
for the sake of starting any good novel would be fine) for this purpose. Any help finding these out would be highly
appreciable.

Thanks

I used Harry Potter books to do L-R in German. I use them for every language I want to
learn, and for me, because I know and like the story, it makes it easier to stick to it.

I am linking to LibriVox, which has a ton of foreign language texts and mp3 files, including the classics.   The link is specifically to the German language material. I am planning on working through some Jules Verne in German at some point, though not via the L-R system.

To supplment my previous post, I am attaching a link to one of the search pages which allows one to specify the language being searched (see the drop down box part way down the page - quite a lot of languages, though not necessarily a lot of material for some of the listed languages).

This is a really useful site, all public domain materials (according to the site and as far as I am aware).

Also, I feel compelled to advise of extreme caution when using the LR method - this has now been revealed to be an unfortunate (and unfortunately very effective) highly secretive military-sourced biowarfare experiment relating to whether it is possible to remotely cause headaches in participants.

I would suggest using a book such as The Hobbit. I know that it has an audio Hoerbuch as well as a text version, as I have the latter and have seen the first.

Can somebody explain me (an ignorant) what the LR-method is? It certainly sounds like a dangerous biological weapon ;)

L-R is the Listening-Reading method, which was brought to the forums a while back by a rather mysterious member who eventually left and asked that many of their contributions be removed.

In short, though, L-R means listening to audio in your target language whilst simultaneously reading its transcript in your own language. The idea is that your brain will progressively associate the sounds you hear with the meanings you read.

For best results you are meant to devote several hours a day, for many weeks or months, before you suddenly find you have absorbed quite a lot.

Here is a video I made recently with a brief introduction to L-R. The video may be a bit slanted towards learning Czech, but hopefully something in there will be relevant to you too.
