I noticed that lately instead of watching HOW I speak Spanish to people it has become WHO I speak Spanish too. I am doing my best to immerse myself in my target language(TV, Radio, Online Chatting With Native Speakers Only). But now besides the dreams in Spanish which I see from this forum are normal I am now accidentally answering and responding to people in Spanish. I find myself chatting online with old friends and typing "COMO ESTAS" or "HOLA" and they respond with "what are you talking about". Just the other day I was at the grocery story and the bagger asked if I wanted my milk in a bag and I said "SI". Que the blank stare. LOL. I know he wanted to ask "are you messing with me". But anyway has this happened to anyone else and is this another normal progression of learning a second language or am I losing more of my mind then I had planned.

Yes! You're not alone! When I was living in Spain I would always respond with si when chatting on line. It must have looked so pretentious! After a week long holiday in Andalucia recently I said gracias to a guy handing out free newspapers in London.

I think it's just a sign that sometimes it can be difficult for your brain to thoroughly shut off one language whilst you're using the other.

I just like to think of it as a sign that the language is become really cemented in my brain, which can only be a good thing!

Hey me too!
I used to do that with Japanese. I once meant to say yes to a shopping assistant and "Hai" came out. She looked at me strangely mainly because it sounded like I said "Hi!" to a yes or no question.
It's strange how our brains do this to us!

I can NEVER say YES or NO in the right language!!

In Cornish I will always say "Yes" or "No"
In Spanish I say "Ya" and "Na" (Cornish)
In French I have said "Si" and "No" before

It's natural; it goes away with time and practice. It's something I essentially never get wrong at this point; a few years ago, I could really mix things up horribly. The worse I speak a language, and the more rapidly I'm switching between languages I'm very poor at, the more likely it is to happen.

On returning to England after living in Japan for several years I really had to fight not to say "excuse me" and "thank you" in Japanese.
