Say, Елиза'вета (Jeleeza'veta) has two standard nicknames: 'Лиза ('Leeza) and 'Вета ('Veta) -- you can probably see how both of those are packed inside of the full name. A friend of ours who goes by "'Лика" ('Leeka) introduces herself as such. She then usually gets asked "what full name is that?", and as soon as she says that it's Елизавета, half of the people in the room switch to calling her Лиза.

And how does one ask in Russian "what full name is that?".? And how are these nicknames refered to, уменьшетельное имя?

'Полное имя - Full name
'Краткое имя - Short name

The question would be:
"Как Ваше 'полное имя?"

Verb aspect - remembering which verb in a verb pair is what. And vocabulary, again, particularly verbs.

Stress, without question! Seemingly completely random.

However, the naming discussion among our Russian members was fascinating, so thanks for
that!

For me it's quite simply verb aspect. It's very difficult to use it in a nuanced manner!
