Hello. I am fine at telling the difference between and pronouncing all Russian letters
except Щ and Ч. I know that Щ is a voiceless alveolo-palatal fricative, but to me that
sounds the same as the English 'sh' (a voiceless post-alveolar fricative). I can't really
hear the difference and I do not know if I am saying it right. Also, the letter ч gives
me trouble. Is it pronounced the same as the English 'ch' or is it pronounced with the
tongue drawn slightly back more toward the palate?

If it's not a problem, would someone who speaks Russian record some words with those
sounds in them? Thank you!

Щ uses the area of the tongue further back than English sh to make contact with the post-alveolar area. It approaches the sound of soft German ch.

Ч has less "t" in it than English "ch." Sorry, I don't have the material to upload sound from here but there are plenty of examples on the web.

Щ in Russian is pronounced like SHSH and not really SHCH as in fresh cheese.. or like in Sch in German words: Try this word.

ЩЕТКА = SCHOT-ka

Now in Ukrainian, we don't pronounce this letter like russian, more like ShCh as in fresh check, but most in east ukraine pronounce like Russian this letter.
