I've recently acted on a long-time desire to study Russian and have gathered an absurdly large collection of texts to see which ones I can learn from the best including Assimil (1951), Princeton Course, S Azov, DLI (1983), and Lipson's "A Russian Course."
I have read that any of the Russky Yazyk (sp) texts are good to have if you can come across them. I've seen several copies on Amazon but have had trouble finding "Russian For Everybody." I'm specifically looking for the edition that has the recorded supplement that apparently has over 22 hours of audio and several other supplemental materials. I've seen where these items are on reserve in some college libraries here in the States, but I would like to purchase them if they're available anywhere. I have heard great things about this course and text (i believe this version was originally published in the 1970s and its text is entirely in Russian).
I understand that it is has been edited and published again in different versions, but would very much like to find the one with the supplemental material. I was hoping someone here would be kind enough to point me in the right direction since this forum has been a wealth of information for me already. Thanks a lot in advance for any help.

I bought the old Russian For Everybody in East Berlin back in the 70s. I love it. It is a complete language course with plenty of audio (all in Russian) and plenty of text. You have the main textbook, grammar book, reader, speaking book with cartoons and jokes, and a dictionary. All of the books except the reader were hardcover.
The next edition from the 80s was OK but it didn't come across as friendly. They modified the text to leave out that you didn't have gas connected if you lived in the country. All of the books except the textbook were softcover.
You got to know the characters in the course and their foibles. It was written with humour. I would suggest you try eBay and see if there are any on offer.
This is probably my favourite language course.

Thanks fanatic.
I'll see what I can find out. Hopefully I can come across the older version that you're referring to.
EDITED TO ADD: in case anyone is interested, I came across a website through NC State University that has a ton of audio lectures corresponding to Russian For Everybody (the Baker edition). It may be of some use for people using this book.

Click on each course (102-202) and go to audio.

Thanks for the recommendation on this, subsequent to which I have bought a really cheap used copy of the textbook on amazon. To now see that the audio is available online is tremendous. Much appreciated.

Splog, just out of curiosity, would you mind telling me which edition or year the text you purchased from Amazon.com is? I'm assuming it's a Baker (American) edition also...?

Yes - it was a Baker edition. But, having successfully placed my order, and received a confirmation (along with expected delivery date)... the next day I received an email saying "The seller has cancelled the transaction" with no explanation given :-( So, it turns out I was celebrating too soon :-(

The book and audio are both available from uz-translations. It is called, French Without Toil, and is one of the best courses for learning French. It must be way out of copyright.
