One of the language programs I mentioned on different threads. I already have Curso PONS for Catalan and Portuguese. One book and 2 cds for each one. Skimmed through the course I recommend it for beginners, but I think ASSIMIL is still more comprehensive.
Like ASSIMIL it has multiple language bases especially German, but I am only going to use the Spanish base at this point.
LatinBoy84, since you have started this thread which is similar to a previous one I did last summer, I am going to request if the other thread can be deleted. There is no point in having repeated topics.
Are there restrictions to just actual programs or do ordinary books written in a different language count?

The cheapest copy on abebooks.com is less than $10 - plus shipping.
Edit - that's "Guide to the Slavonic Languages: Guide to the East Slavonic Languages: 003". The only volume I'm personally familiar with is simply the "Guide to the Slavonic languages", without an Eastern or Western subtitle, second revised edition. Something by this title (minus information on the revision) starts at about $35 plus shipping for a slightly beaten-up copy, and for a few bucks more, there are other sellers.
Second edit: The languages covered in my copy of the book are Old Slavonic (Old Bulgarian), Russian, Ukrainian, Byelorussian, Bulgarian, Macedonian, Serbocroatian, Slovenian, Czech, Slovak, Polish, and Lusatian (or Wendish). The book briefly sketches morphology, characteristic features, a bit of information on dialects, writing system and pronunciations, and differences between the languages, for each language, as well as providing short sample texts in each.

Thank you. I have taken a look at abebooks, and there seem to be (at least) two editions. As far as I can tell, the first edition is from 1951 (republished in 1963). It is a single volume, has 797 pages, and attempts to cover many slavonic language (east, west, south). Maybe this is the edition you have.
Then in 1980 it seems to have become an expanded three volume series where volume 1 (399 pages) covers southern languages, volume 2 (483 pages) covers western languages, and volume 3 (254 pages) covers eastern languages. The prices of volumes 2 and 3 do seem very reasonable and I shall buy them. Unfortunately, volume 1 is quite expensive so I will have to keep monitoring for better prices in future.
Then you so much for the recommendation of this book!

Summary: Based on what I've seen, this seems to be a popular company in Spain. They have several Target languages available, prices seem reasonable. The company claims to follow the common european framework and the main courses include 2 books with 4 cd's. |

Has anyone got any experience of these? Very superficially they seem to be the Spanish equivalent of TY or Colloquial (1 book, 2CDs) but you know what they say about judging a book by its cover.... Anyway, I'm thinking about picking up Catalan and Portuguese and I wondered what sort of stuff was included in the books.
Edit: I just found the "look inside" links on the website and I've seen for myself. They're fairly similar to TY and Colloquial, but veering towards "communicative approach" textbooks used in TEFL classes.

The best program I've known is for studying German language. It is outrageously expensive but is worth every penny.

Caintear,
You are aware the Portuguese is European and not Brazilian. Any specifics on the two courses you are interested in knowing?
Like my previous post I already have both of them.
I am not going to mention another Spanish base course for Catalan, as I am still unaware if this thread is specific to just a line of programs or anything in another language base. I will give a hint. The course is presumably a replacement of Digui Digui, but at this point no videos.
Strange thing no forum member has even mentioned it on any thread regarding learning Catalan. It has been out for a while already for at least two years.

Program: Je parle russe and Je parle russe 2
Base: French
Target: Russian
www.amazon.fr
Summary: Seems to have gotten fairly good reviews on Amazon. There are two volumes in the series. Seems to be the Francophone equivalent of the New Penguin Course. The books like they break down grammar points. There are 40 lesson in each book. "Incontournable outil pour mieux communiquer en russe vous trouverez dans cet ouvrage - sous forme de fiches illustrées - une présentation de la grammaire et du vocabulaire au travers de situations concrètes systématiquement assortie d'exercices et de jeux corrigés."

Program: Prisma
Base: Dutch
Target: Multiple
www.bol.com
I found this series, but I used the search function afterward if it has been mentioned before. Another forum member Aquilo uses this and likes it. The review of the member is the book resembles the Colloquial Series.
There is another series if you type Voor Beginners. The line of books somewhat resembles TY and that there are multiple other subjects. Not just languages. Frans Voor Beginners also has Prisma on the cover. I am confused if there are two separate programs or the same with the title Voor Beginners. I will not list it separately for now.
Program: Basiscursus
Base: Dutch
Target: Multiple
www.bol.com
Multiple subjects as well, but there are language books with a cd or two. Like the name implies a basic course.
Program: Méthode de langue
Base: French
Target: Multiple
www.amazon.fr
Mainly books. I saw the Corsican course with three cds.
Program: Méthode intensive
Base: French
Target: Multiple

Book with 2 cds. Not all target languages have cds.
Program: Méthode 90

Target: Multiple
www.amazon.fr
Book with multiple cds, but quantity of cds varies with the target language. Mentioned in two other threads. Search for other members experience.
Program: Hueber
Base: German
Target: Multiple
www.amazon.de
Depends which target language is purchased. (Book, cds, cards) Mentioned in the forum before.
Program: 語学 入門の入門シリーズ
Base: Japanese
Target: Multiple
www.amazon.co.jp
Book and new editions have cds.
Program: CD BOOK-Basic Language Learning Series
Base: Japanese
Target: Multiple
www.amazon.co.jp
Grammar exercises with book and cd.
Sorry I cannot supply adequate information, as it is time consuming using the translator. It would help if any member knows Japanese and browses the site using keywords. I will not put the Chinese bases, as I am unsure if they are a program line or just one specific language program.
