A couple of things to report. First of all, I discovered "Freecorder". It can record audio from stuff like radio streams (into mp3 form) so you can replay it on your Ipod. It has worked good for me so far, but I have barely used it, so things may change. It is the best in-line recorded I have found after trying three or four out though.
I am getting into the habbit of relistening to things over and over. I have already been doing to this with music (listened to one Japanese song 208 times acording to Itunes), but now I am doing it with podcasts. I also re-read stuff like content on the linq.
I am still learning words with an SRS, but I am putting less focus on it. I listened to Japanese music for around 5 hours on "Live 365". If someone could link to a more news or talkshow type radio station, I would be thankful.
I rewatched the movie "The Machine Girl", and I knew a lot more than I did last time I saw it. It's moments like this that show you are making progress, even though you may deny it at times. Well, back to listening to White Darkness by TM revolution. Good luck with your studies!

Gosh, I haven't posted here in a long time. I guess it is time for a update.
I am reading sites like yahoo answers in Japanese with the help of a bilingual dictionary. I still use the monolingual dictionary to improve my skills, however, when reading a text, I just want that instant gratification of a translation. I know that sounds extremely hypocritical from me, since I constantly talked about how monolingual dictionaries are the only way.
Anyways, I am learning vocabulary and listening and reading a lot. I am picking up more and more. It has become apparent that the more you know, the easier it is to learn more. I am watching a Japanese movie (watched the first half yesterday, and I will watch the second half today). I am understanding a lot of the dialogue, including full scenes. I look up words I don't know in the dictionary, and the add them to Mnemosyne. Over the last month, I have made a lot of progress, but I could have made more. From here on out it is just of matter of how much Japanese I do.

I am not really a big anime fan, however, I watched around 5 episodes today. It was great listening practice, and I learned some new words. I have also listened to some music. One of my Ipods earbuds wasn't playing sound, but I am hoping that was because the battery was low. If not I will just buy some more headphone so I can continue to listen when I am not infront of the computer/tv.
I have started to read yahoo answers in Japanese, because I use to read it a lot in English. It is a good way to learn vocabulary, but I am not at the level where I can read through it easily. I am sure learning more vocabulary and reading will fix this problem though.
I reviewed and added new cards to my SRS for about an hour today. It is obviously a huge help.

I watched a lot of episodes of bleach today. I am getting really into the series, which has lead to me learning tons of new words, and increasing my listening comprehension. I have also been listening to new genres of Japanese music (such as techno) on youtube. Although I am sure these help my Japanese, I also keep up with adding sentences to my SRS.
I got some new head phones for my Ipod, and I plan on adding new podcasts and songs soon. I am also reading through the "Majoras Mask" manga, which is pretty interesting. The "tomorrow" J-drama I was in to has ended, so I am looking for some new dramas. I am getting "Ame to Yume no Ato ni" now. I watched an episode of it a long time ago, when I first started learning Japanese, but I didn't even now the basics then, so I didn't enjoy it much. Maybe this time around will be different.

Unfortunately, I do not have access to my SRS until tomorrow, but I might make some cards that I can import into my standard deck when I return to my home.
Anyways, I have taken a strong liking to the Kyoto dialect of Japanese, so I plan on learning a lot of it, while obviously learning standard Japanese too. It seems as though many Japanese understand Kyoto dialect, even if they don't speak it, meaning it is mutually intelligible with standard Japanese (I hope).
So I will be loading my Ipod with Kyoto dialect podcasts, radio shows, and music if I have success in finding these things on the internet.

Today was quite good day, as I started reading through some manga with a monolingual dictionary (yes, I have switched back). One thing that helps a lot when reading Japanese (at least for me) is skip the stuff you don't understand, and come back to it later. I am reading "Gintama" by the way.
I learned some new vocabulary, and I also subconsciously picked up some grammar from the reading, I'm think. Reading in Japanese is fun as long as you keep the material interesting, and you don't over do it.
Anyways, I watched half an episode (around 25 minutes) "Ame to Yume no ato ni", and then I watched bleach. I also listened to my Ipod and some music online. Reading English (on the internet), has become a bad habbit for me, and I want to reinvest that time into reading Japanese. The more you read, the more you understand.
Although I use to push reading away (in favor of audio sources), I am now excited about reading, especially manga series like Bleach and Death note, and of course newspapers and the like. From here on out it is just practice and consistency I guess (ha, I say that like every post.) Good luck with your studies!

Japanese becomes a more interesting language as you learn more of it. For example, I was reading Gintama today, and some loud, obnoxious guy demanded money to be repaid from two kids, as their father had borrowed from him. Anyways, the obnoxious business man spoke in Osaka dialect, which, for those of you who don't know, is stereotyped to be "rough and rude" sounding to Tokyonites.

Although I am still going to read Gintama from time to time, it doesn't interest me much. It seems to be less serious then what I prefer. So, I have decided to start reading the death note manga. I have seen the series a few times, and have read about it a lot, so I know how it works.
My goal is to read through the Death Note series (all 12 Volumes) and collect 3000 sentences in the process. Here is my guidelines.
1. I will use a monolingual dictionary for the most part, HOWEVER, if I get really stuck, I will check the bilingual dictionary.
2. All the sentences I find will only have Japanese (i.e. no Japanese-English sentences). Meaning even if I use the bilingual dictionary, I will only have Japanese sentences.
I may get bored and quit, because I will not continue to read through something that bores me. Anyways, I might also watch the accompanying anime to get audio reinforcement.
So far, I have gotten 22 sentences. I am about to watch episode 1 of Death Note, listening for new things I have learned. Then I will rip the audio, and put it on my Ipod.
