Today I have added 19 sentences to my SRS, but I plan on adding some more (3-5 more). I have read around 70% of the first 49 pages of Death Note. I have skipped around quite a bit grabbing sentences. You never realize how many sentences are in a single episode of TV until you start collecting them. Anyways, I am not going on to the next chapter/episode of Death Note yet, because I feel I still have a lot of material to cover. I am definitely going to watch the episode a few more times, then add it to my Ipod. Once I understand 80% or more, I will rewatch the episode and reread the chapter for a final time. Also, once I am done with this Death Note sentence collecting project, I am planning on starting to watch the news more often, because I can barely understand News people (who speak frequently in death note). I am going to rip the audio from the TV show, then listen to it on the bus in the morning once, then again in the afternoon. I may spend a whole week on this single episode/chapter, but that's fine with me, because I want to understand all of it.

I have not dropped the whole Kyoto thing either. I want to speak standard Japanese, with just a touch of Kyoto dialect (meaning saying stuff like "Honma" instead of "Hontou"). I have found a nice podcast that is done completely in Kyoto ben, which I will link to if anyone wants it (doubt anyone studies regional variations of Japanese...). Anyways, I doubt I will add the podcasts to my Ipod, as I want to focus on death note.

I am getting more addicted to reading, which is ironic, considering how I use to dislike it. In fact, I have kind of let my listening take back seat to reading, however, I plan on changing that. Today, I read 30 pages of the Death Note manga, then watched the corresponding episode of anime.

I decided to move on in the series, although I hadn't exactly "milked" the first chapter for "all it is worth". I can go back later if I want to learn more sentences, but I understood (meaning I got the most of it, but I did not understand precise details).

Through my SRS, I am still reviewing what I learned in chapter one. Come to think of it, I am really impressed with how much of chapter 1, as a couple of weeks ago, I could barely get through a couple of pages.

One thing I have found useful is to skip around, looking for "low hanging fruit". I have watched the death note anime with English subtitles a long time ago, so I know what is going to happen. To be frank, although I can grasp 90% of what I read with a bit of work, sometimes their is stuff that is too over my head. Instead of worrying about it, I just move on. If it is really that important, it will pop up again in the future when my skills have improved.

Anyways, I am still working towards that 3000 sentence goal I started a couple days ago. I am currently at 123.

Today, I read a bit more Death Note, but I also read on Yahoo Answers. I remember when I use to say "People who are bad at English just need to read and listen, and they will be more fluent". I don't output (right and speak) right now, but I am sure if I did, I would sound similar to those people (i.e. getting my point across yet making mistakes). I am now at the stage in my learning where I can read through normal texts with heavy dictionary use, so that's what I am doing.

I practiced quite a bit, but I am going to do better tomorrow (better should always be the goal, right?). I am still reading death note, by I am also reading D.Gray Man, adding the sentences to my SRS with both of course. Once I hit the 1000 sentence mark in my SRS, I am going to try to read some more non-manga content.

Before I call it a night I am going to add rearrange my "Japanese Library". I am thinking of buying an external hard drive just for my Japanese library, so I will be able to take it on the go.
