If I may give my input. I'm a french canadian from Québec. The grammar we learn is the standard french grammar. Some of the exemples I read here (la fille que.....) is not used correctly. There is a tendency here in Québec to not speak or write properly, unfortunately. If you listen to Radio-Canada or RDI, you'll ear standard french very well spoken. Yes, you will find slang in québec, but there is also slang in France, like everywhere in the world. English from England or USA have a standard part and they have there own slang, idioms and humor. In France, they use a lot of English words. They say "shopping", "parking", etc with a French accent. They have a lot of words and expressions that we don't understand, which are not even in French dictionnaries(Robert, Larousse).
You will also find funny expressions in some books or internet sites. A lot of French words have changed. At the beginning of the 20e century, there were very big families in quebec (lot of children). And a lot of poverty also. A lot of children had to quit school ofen as young as 8-10 years old to help parents work on the farms to survive. So if they were not able to learn French correclty in school, they learned the way they could. So some words or expressions have change accross the time. But in France, language had also evolved, in there own way. That's why it is so different. Here in Canada (and also USA), English at the beginning was from England (colonisation). But accross the time, north american English has changed a lot too and is now very different from England. But we don't call it a dialect !!
If you have any question, do not hesitate.......
