Practicing to say it will help you hear it better, and practicing to hear it will help you say it better. One reinforces the other. If you do a lot of both you end up improving both.

A blind man can hold his hand above his head, but he has never seen anyone do it.

Pronunciation is a physical action. You can do the basic action from a description. Once you can do the basic action, it's quite easy to start comparing it to what you observe other people doing.

Global_gizzy,

Try using your hand to physically accentuate the stressed syllable. Slap your thigh, thump the table, punch the air. Let the physical movement be echoed in your voice, like a karate competitor yells "kya!" with each punch.
