I don't speak German, but I think I see what the problem is here.
When adoggie says "genitive pronoun", I think she means the genitive case of personal pronouns, like how the genitive of "ich" is "meiner". All these forms end in -er, as given in this table.
When adoggie says "possessive adjective" (more accurately "possessive pronoun"), she means, for example, the adjective "mein" and all its forms: mein, meinen, meinem, meines, etc. -- it is these that sometimes end in nothing or -em.
The Wikipedia article says, though, that the genitive of personal pronouns is archaic, so usually the possessive pronouns -- mein, meinen, etc. -- are used to indicate possession. So I wouldn't worry about the genitive case of personal pronouns like "ich".
