Rosetta Stone has been discussed at great length here over the years. If you want to know in depth why not to use it, you can use the search function.

I'll summarise:
Overpriced piece of rubbish. Avoid.

I'd personally recommend Michel Thomas Spanish. You can try out the first hour of the course for free at www.michelthomas.co.uk/soundclips.htm and decide for yourself.

I honestly love Michel Thomas. His programs are top rate, I love them. For the money, they are priceless.

I have never liked Rosetta Stone. It's just way too expensive and you don't learn much. I would pick up Assimil
Spanish with Ease and/or Living Language Ultimate Spanish along with a Teach Yourself Spanish.

I would also look up the youtube channels: Moses McCormick (Laoshu505000), Steve Kaufmann (lingosteve), and
Professor Arguelles (ProfASAr). They have some great advice on language learning.

I would look into Steve Kaufmann's LingQ.com. I'm using it for Spanish at the moment and it has greatly helped me.
(Steve talks about it in his videos)

I used Michel Thomas's Spanish course as I dabbled with Spanish and although the
methodology has had it's share of criticism here I would recommend it. It seems to
internalise the language in a very very effective way. I still think in Spanish, well -
most of it is incomprehensible as I have very limited vocabulary, even though I haven't
studied it for years. Spanish pronunciation is very natural to me.

I'd also recommend the Assimil course, never did it with Spanish but for French so far it
has helped me a lot. A quite entertaining and very rewarding course.

I have used Pimsleur Italian with much success. It's my guess that the Spanish edition is
just as great, but perhaps someone else can confirm this. It's a little pricey, but worth
the money I think.

I'm learning Spanish, I'd say go for it, natives are awesome to speak to. Also, try Michel Thomas and Assimil, they are some of the best. Also purchase a workbook such as one from the Colloquial or Teach Yourself series, they are recommended a lot here. DON'T get Rosetta Stone.

Also, I'd say start Michel Thomas, work through a couple hours of it and the workbook, then start Assimil.

¡bueno suerte, amigo (¿o amiga?)!
Good luck!
