I found a copy of Russian Without Toil in a used bookstore. It is the 1951
edition by Cherel. Is this the same text as found in the current edition of
any other Assimil Russian courses? I am looking for the audio and I
understand that the newer editions are totally different.

Russian Without Toil is a couple generations behind the current texts/audio. I compared notes with Fanatic a while back on that very subject, since I wanted to find out if the tapes I have for my 1971 Russe Sans Peine would match the Without Toil book. Apparently they're pretty close to each other up to about lesson 50, but beyond that they're different.
Your best bet is probably periodic searches on abebooks.com and the various ebay sites.

I am looking through this book now and I agree with what has been said
before. The older Assimil courses were much better. The newer ones seem
dumbed down by comparision.
I think got a good deal at 5.00.

Are there actually an English version for the 70's edition? 'Cause I can't seem to find any, all of them seem to be dated of 196x.

Sudaca1: I wasn't able to find an English copy from the 1970s via bookfinder.com. I ended up getting a copy of Russisch ohne Mühe, published in the 70s. There were quite a few copies of it available at booklooker.de. But obviously, you'll need to have a decent grasp of German to use it. :)

I have never seen an English copy of the 70s version, only German and I remember being told that one never
existed. I also have the 51 version and would like to get the audio.

Hm... Taking a look at Amazon, they do have one for Jun/1980 (that unfortunely has no sellers/copies right now), but I don't know if it's a mistake, since most of those informations were inputed by Amazon Makerplace sellers. So if anyone has it, please confirm.
I'm thinking of getting the old one (from the 50's). Can I use the 70's recordings at least, as stated before, for the first 50 lessons? What about the rest, do they differ too much? Is it worthy getting the 70's french edition as well? My French ain't that good, but I can read it a little.

No, you can't use the 70's recordings with the book from the 50's. I can confirm that they don't line up at all, not even in the first lesson.
