Ardaschir/Alexander Arguelles, is one of the great polyglots on this forum. He spoke a lot about his learning methods but hasn't been online for quite some time now.

Sort of. From his descriptions, he doesn't have some of the gifts of Mezzofanti (it sounds like Mezzofanti had an exceptional memory for what he heard; the book linked to on the left about him contains some amazing anecdotes - things like learning new Italian dialects well enough to hear confession in them in a day or so, writing perfectly not only in Basque, but in several dialects of it, speaking Japanese and Chinese well, and many other such things - which was quite something for a clergyman of several centuries ago in Rome). Despite this, he's managed to learn a rather large number of languages; the third post on this page lists them.
He posted a large number of extremely good explanations, including many on the learning techniques he uses.

Interesting...according to the profiles link on this forum Enigma is the top polyglot here with advanced fluency in 20 languages...Astounding! But I don't think I have ever read any posts from him...guess that is why he is called Enigma.

Yeah, I was always dissapointed that he never wrote anything for us to read.
It would be interesting to see how he learned those languages.

The link is dead. I'm happy to send a copy to anyone who sends me a PM - I'm not up on all of the places to get free hosting that lasts for a decent amount of time.
