Has anyone had experience working as an Au pair in another country, or know anyone who has? I am considering this type of work for next year and am especially curious of the benefits to one's language acquisition this way, as well as being submerged in the culture for an extended period of time.

Hi!
See my post here for my best friends experience of working as an au pair in Paris.
If you do it right, you will learn at lot. My friend's placement family sent her to language school while the kids were at school, so she had proper French lessons as well as total immersion at home.
My advise? Pick your placement family well...you will be living with them for a year so it's important you get along! I heard many horror stories where the au pair-family relationship went seriously wrong...
