Hi everyone,

Recently I have become interested in the CEFR learning levels and what they might mean
in reality, rather than a list of can-do statements. I am using Assimil to study
Italian and German. Assimil with ease can supposedly take you to B2 level on the CEFR
scale. Therefore, I searched and came across the following videos from the Cambridge
ESOL site. They show examples of speech and interaction at the various levels. I
haven't seen these video's linked here before so I thought I would add them and maybe
get peoples opinion's about them. You can clearly see a difference in the ability to
produce sentences and the correct use of grammar between the different levels, but one
thing I noticed, is how, although there are still some differences, the level of oral
comprehension of the students is (in the case of the A2 students at least) beyond their
ability to speak at that level. I find that curious.

Anyway, maybe these video's will get some of you to rethink what level you are at in
relation to the scale of levels if you have previously only used the short descriptions
at each level to place yourself at one of them.
