This is awesome – I've been trying to find some good music in French. Could you possibly add a brief description, even just a word or two describing the genre, for each artist? I understand if it's too much work, but it would be really helpful!

I love French music! Here are some of my favorite musicans. :)

Bruno Pelletier – A singer from Québec. His music tends to be of the pop/rock genre, as well as the chanson genre, but he’s also done some light jazz in a project called Bruno Pelletier et le GrosZorchestre. He’s been in various francophone musicals, such as Notre-Dame de Paris, which was extremely successful all over the world, Dracula: Entre l’amour et la mort, Starmania, and, most recently, Les Filles de Caleb. I highly recommend his music. His voice is very strong and powerful, and incredibly unique. He’s definitely in a category all is own. :)

Bruno's perhaps most famous song, from Notre-Dame de Paris: Le temps des cathédrales

Julie Zenatti – A singer from France. Like Bruno, she had a role in the musical, Notre-Dame de Paris, but hasn’t really done any musicals since then. Her music isn’t really of the typical pop variety—it can most accurately be described as symphonic pop, as her newest album has beautiful orchestral accompaniment rather than the typical guitars, drums, and basses of normal pop. Her voice is extremely beautiful, and very powerful. I definitely suggest listening to her music.

Je voudrais que tu me consoles.

Cassiopée – Another singer from Québec. She doesn’t really have a lot on YouTube, unfortunately, as she’s fairly unknown. But her self-titled album is available on iTunes, and I very, very strongly recommend it. She has a strong, soprano operatic voice, but the album also has a rock feel to it. It’s definitely different, but certainly worth listening to. I fell in love with the album the moment I heard it. At the moment she’s in New York with Cirque du Soleil Zarkana, but she’s also the lead singer of an anglophone synth-opera metal band called Anemonia. She's also been in the musical Sherazade, Les milles et une nuits.

La reine de la nuit (based on Mozart's Queen of Night)

Natasha St-Pier – A singer from New Brunswick. She was Julie Zenatti’s replacement as Fleur-de-Lys in the English production of Notre-Dame de Paris in London, although she primarily sings in French. Her music is the typical French pop. She has some great songs, and she has a beautiful voice. She also has quite a few albums, so there’s a lot to listen to.

Tant que c'est toi

Some other singers I recommend are Garou, Andrée Watters, Marie-Mai, and Annie Villeneuve (all from Québec). :)
