One of the hardest things for learning Mandarin for me is the
lack of good music to listen to in the language. I can remember hearing about two
popular artists that were bearable, ever. I think Chinese traditional music is
interesting, but I haven't found any, especially with good Mandarin vocals. Does anyone
have suggestions? My tastes are pretty wide other than that so anything would be
good.

I have some recommendations for traditional Chinese music. These songs feature
traditional instruments like the 枇杷 and the 古筝 so you might find them interesting.

沧海一声笑:

只记今嘲笑:

This is another song I like.

It comes from a TV adaption of 水浒传 which is acknowledged as one of the 4 greatest
classical novels of Chinese literature.

This is a purely instrumental version of 'One Night in Beijing' aka 北京一夜. There are
obviously no words but it is an awesome rendition nonetheless.

Jay Chou (Taiwan) and Stefanie Sun (Singapore) are very, very popular singers that I like to listen to now and then.

Stefanie Sun is fine, but Jay Chou... Can you follow him?
You know how some Chinese who got sick of taking English tests wanted to make it mandatory for English speaking folks to take HSK, and they want to put Jay Chou's songs on the listening section? Of course that's a joke, but you get the idea.

If by Chinese traditional music you mean folklores, you could check out Song Zuying, Peng Liyuan, Jiang Dawei, and... sorry I don't have the rest of them on top of my mind.
But I should probably warn you that these songs sometimes get political.

Thanks for the suggestions. I've found this beautiful song with subtitles. The lyrics seem to be so simple that I could even understand (I guess and hope) part of the song.

I wish Paperdoll would do more in Mandarin. They mostly sing in English.

And now for something completely different - nobody's mentioned my two favourites:
二手玫瑰 and PK14. They are on Youtube.

Lol, I haven't heard that one before, but her songs are generally good. I personally would prefer some other songs she did, but I wouldn't mention them here since we probably have different tastes.
