You could survive on pizza and milkshakes - why eat and drink anything else?
You would probably also survive just listening to MTV - why watch anything else?
And if you wash your clothes every weekend - where you are sitting at home anyway because the company of max. one person should be more than enough - you only need one complete suit. That way we would also get rid of all those pesky and noisy clothes shops (except one, which only would sell black clothes - one colour is enough).
In other words, why should you ever want to have more than one of anything, including languages?

So with one language you are a fraction of an interpreter/translator?

Yes... but the level remains the same. That's why I would like to participate in some research program or something that sort of forces you to push your skills to another level. |

Write a book/newspaper article/essay/thesis/poetry/drama, act, sing, start a multilingual afternoon/evening in your area... as Arekkusu said, anything you can do with one language (whatever it is you're doing - as a hobby or professionally) you can do in other languages (or countries).

Activity holidays (sailing, climbing, skiing, canyoning, whatever) are always great fun. And it's even more of an adventure if you're in a foreign country hanging around with locals and speaking to them in their own language!

With one language, you are the same as a translator/interpreter who speaks 7 languages, but only with 1/7th of the people, and 1/7th of places and situations.
