Not the same word, but similar:

Spanish - Sorete - "shit"
Portuguese - Sorvete - Ice cream

Portuguese - coco - coconut
Portuguese - cocô - "shit"

Some illiterate people write "agua de cocô" (water of shit), instead of "água de coco" (coconut water). Portuguese can be tricky.

Funny differences between Brazilian PT and Portugal PT.

Br-PT - rabo - ass
Pt-Pt rabo - end

Br-PT - bixa - gay
Pt-Pt- bixa - queue, line

If I say "rabo da bixa" in Pt-Pt, it means "end of the line", but In Br-Pt, it means "the gay ass". Brothers from Portugual please correct me if I'm wrong, but I watched it on tv a long time ago and never forgot about it.

English - Turkey - Turkey (an animal)
English - Turkey - Turkey (a country)

Brazilian-Pt - Peru - (an animal, which means Turkey)
Brazilian-Pt - Peru - (a latin american country)

Sorry for the "dirty" words.

Finnish - maukas - delicious
Latvian - maukas - hookers

Latvian - perse - name of a river in Latvia
Estonian - perse - ass

Spanish - vista - view, sight
Latvian - vista - chicken

Swedish - kaka - cake, cookie
Latvian - kaka - shit

Swedish - kurva - curve
Slavic languages - kurva - slut

Finnish - lohi - salmon
Rssian - lohi (лохи) - goofs, nerds, idiots

And, yes, me too sorry for "bad" words.

English - "smart" = clever or well-dressed
Japanese - スマート = slim

Any other cases where katakana English took on a completely different meaning?

Funniest German/English pair I can think of:
German - Gift - poison
English - gift - a present

So don't ever bring gift(s) to Germans. ;)

By the way: Mist is more like "rubbish" or "crap" and not really shit. Shit is usually translated to "Scheiße". (I hope there is no bad word filter on....)

Finnish = Katso merta!" ( Look the sea!)

Italian = Cazzo merda !   ( Prick shit)

I am not sure about this, but once a Turkish girl told me that the word ''palavra'', which in Portuguese means '' word'', in Turkish means ''lie''. Can any Turkish speaker confirm this? So, according to her, it would be :

PORTUGUESE

Palavra = Word

TURKISH

Palavra = Lie

So do not tell any palavra in Turkey, but you can say them in Brazil or Portugal all you want...
