Does anyone know of any place online that I could watch German shows with German subtitles? The only other option I can think of is ordering DVDs from Germany.

Here is a soap opera with subtitles:
Lindenstraße
I was kinda hoping to find subtitles for my favourite one Verbotene Liebe. But sadly,
they don't offer it for that show :(.

I'd like to recommend "Türkisch für Anfänger", a series I'm subtitling online with a couple of people.

Quite a few on ZDF, for example Lena - Liebe meines Lebens:

You need to switch the subtitles on first obviously, but also in settings you can adjust the size, otherwise they're quite small. A nice feature
is that the subtitles are just text, so you can copy and paste them if you want to.

Hallo, newbie here.
Just wanted to thank t123 for the ZDF link. I was desperate for something like this and
now I'm completely involved in this new show. I had to settle for watching episodes of
Die Simpsons on youtube without subtitles, of course.
Also, many Region 2 DVDs (those for Europe) have German audio and subtitles, though you
would have to check them out individually. The DVDs I can confirm that do have German
audio and subtitles are: As Good As It Gets, Stand By Me, and Ghost. Broadway Danny
Rose has German audio but no German subtitles. Again, these are only on the Region 2
DVDs, as far as I know.

Zekecoma, I watch some excerpted storylines from Verbotene Liebe on YouTube with English subtitles. I don't know if the entire episodes are subtitled there, but it's worth a look! Here's part 1 of the Christian/Oliver story. If you look at the "related videos" or "recommendations" or whatever they're called, or ask around in the comments section, you might be able to find what you're looking for. Good luck! And thanks to everyone for the links, BTW!

I've just recently decided to start off with German, and I too am searching for
relatively easy input.
arte.de is not bad, especially if you're also into french! - Since the channel is
"franco-german", everything exists in a version of each language. This way, you could use
one language to improve the other and benefit in both studies at the same time.

Thanks for the links.
Also, for those of you interested there's the Carla and Hanna storyline from "Verbotene Liebe" with Eng. subs. Here's a playlist:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7gv0ki738OQ&list=PLF7D1713AB0 C7FA3C
And here's the same storyline without subs playlist: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLD1153890AF338B05&feat ure=viewall
There might be some scenes missing from one playlist and extra footage in the other playlist but it's all mainly the same. Good to watch with the subs for practice and then rewatching it in German only.
