I'm just starting to learn French with my son, who's turning 13 next month. When I learned Hindi, I listened to tons of Bollywood music. When I was learning German, I discovered Jupiter Jones. In both cases, I liked the music and the lyrics were pretty clearly enunciated.
So now I'm looking for suggestions for French music to listen to, to help improve our listening and to make the whole process more like fun than like work. There are a few simple criteria:

I'll start the suggestions myself, by mentioning two I've tried:
The Plasticines. Fairly rubbish girl-punk. They had apparently learned to play their instruments a year or two before recording this and it shows. Better than nothing, though! Just heard Noir Désir, which I might give to my son for his birthday. He likes Muse, and they sound a bit like the dark side of Muse. Paris Combo! It's a French group with a real throwback sound, like a swinging small jazz group from the Paris Hot years. Think Squirrel Nut Zippers in French. I have not been disappointed by any of their albums.

Idk... my friend likes Lorie, but she isa bit girly... the girl kind of reminds me of Britney Spears and I dont even speak French so this may not be a good suggestion... but she is who I thought of when I saw the thread. 1. I choose to define good as "songs I like". I'm sure many people would disagree with this definition vehemently.
2. Check. 3. Printed? CDs? Can't help you with that. I buy my music via iTunes. You can find lyrics for just about anything with a quick google search. I use a plugin in winamp that looks up the lyrics online for whatever song is currently playing. 4. My French isn't really good enough yet to say for sure. Groups/Singers with links to examples of their music on youtube. Kyo (Rock / Pop band) Le Chemin Dernière Danse Les Fatals Picards (I'd describe them as punk-rock, but what do I know? Wikipedia says Rock/punk/pop) Le Combat Ordinare *My favorite song at the moment. Le Jardin Marie-Chantal Toupin (Canadian Pop / Rock singer) Soirée de Filles Maudit Bordel Wilfred LeBouthillier (Canadian Pop / Rock singer) Allez, viens Philippe Katerine (Pop / Rock singer) His videos and songs seem weird but they're catchy. I'm not sure if he's supposed to be funny or if his songs are supposed to be ironic or something else.
