There is a tonne of great Arab music out there. All the above are good (I admit, I love Nancy - she's one of my absolute favourites - start with Ah wa nos).
Check out too: Rashed Al Majed (faaaabulous), Mohammed Mounir (love his voice), Pascale Machaalani, Warda and Mohammed Abdou.
Most of all, though, you must get hold of Um Koulthoum...these will be very old recordings, not super hi fi, but the emotion...and if you have been to Egypt or read any cultural books/magazines, for sure you will have already heard of this magnificent singer.
Oh, if you are interested in rap there's a few of those bands too - MTM are a bit long in the tooth now but fun videos.

It's great to learn more names to listen to.
However, I am absolutely ashamed that I did not mention Umm Kulthum earlier. Absolutely powerful music, ranging from "Al-Atlal" to "Alf Layla wa Layla" and "Ba3ed Annak." Certainly a singer every Arabic student should try listening to.

Lately, I've been loving Tomorrow/Bokra, which involves several Arabic singers. I think it's a truly beautiful song. |

I was watching the video and was like "wait, do I know that guy? Oh snap IT'S QUINCY JONES!!!!" Very cool song, shukran!
As far as Arabic music goes, Natacha Atlas is my jam. Her music kind of makes me think about learning Egyptian Arabic.

Yaspop -- Y.A.S. - Mirwais
It's described as "electro-kasbah pop."
The singer is Lebanese.

I used to hate Arabic music, but I forced myself to listen to it because I wanted to have exposure to all parts of the culture and language. I actually have gotten to the point where I enjoy it. A lot of the music is based on totally different scales than western music so it really takes getting your ears used to it before you like it. True, there is westernized Arabic music, but the songs rooted in tradition are hard to like. Music from the gulf has taken me an especially long time to get used to because it is so different than western music. However, the mijwiz has actually become my favorite instrument now. Anyway, here are my favorite songs:
Watfi (Syrian) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rX2YbbYx-rk&list=FL7N8gZWztb0 mQrue_cr8U8w&index=50&feature=plpp_video
Albi wa Omry (Egyptian) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Hb2Uc5MQnA&list=FL7N8gZWztb0 mQrue_cr8U8w&index=47&feature=plpp_video
The Job (Saudi and English) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8muFOquui3w&list=FL7N8gZWztb0 mQrue_cr8U8w&index=40&feature=plpp_video
El Maw'ed El Da'ea' (Saudi, this one took me a while before I started liking it) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NJE9n6zrXq0&list=FL7N8gZWztb0 mQrue_cr8U8w&index=37&feature=plpp_video
Engaged (Saudi) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m3ZJM8lyxfQ&list=FL7N8gZWztb0 mQrue_cr8U8w&index=32&feature=plpp_video
For Your Eyes Damascus (Syrian) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PU_hY_XBE7I&list=FL7N8gZWztb0 mQrue_cr8U8w&index=27&feature=plpp_video
Those are a few of my favorites. I've lost track of others that I liked so much that I listened to a TON and now they don't do much for me. Let me know if you'd like more. Most things from Faris Karam and Miriam Faris are good too.

I was on the same boat as ANK47 when I started Arabic. While I liked the sounds of a few Arabic songs, the sounds and different style of the rest of the music didn't attract me at first. Often I'd feel that the songs were slow or sounded very grim. However, I soon grew to really like much of the music, even the more traditional songs.
@SmilingStraw: I actually discovered Rim Banna a few months ago and must say I really like her music as well. Her voice is very particular and I like her focus on some folk songs and the themes of the other songs. At first, I wasn't so sure about Kazem Al-Sahir, but I grew to like his music as well. La Mahkama (with Asmaa Lmnawar), for example has caught my ears' attention before, and I like how he incorporates some of Nizar Qabbani's poetry into some of his songs.
