Your method seems to be good, although with the no English rule in the flashcards you can

I've been using his list of vocabulary to create an image-only Tagalog deck:
625 words I'm finding it very useful! However, I also have another non-picture anki deck for words and expressions that I learn from various sources (textbook, Skype conversations, Teach Yourself, etc). I think his word list and ideas for using the words provide a solid start to learning a language. That said, I personally need lots of different sources of input in order to stay motivated and engaged. (Oh, and one more thing - I owe thanks to the author for linking to Kalye Speak on his blog. I *love* that podcast, and it isn't quite so easy to find resources in Tagalog!) 2 persons have voted this message useful | |||

I really like the videos too. Gabe is very good at presenting his experience, information, research and goals.
