Hey all,
I just received the supposidly "new" Assimil German with Ease book. Isn't the new edition supposed to be much different compared to the first edition? The book I received looks just like the 1st edition though. I just wanted to know so I can return it if it's not the 2nd edition.
Thanks!

I actually just watched a video on Youtube yesterday about this. The guy had the previous
version with Italian as the L1, but he wanted to get the the new German course too. The
new one had French as the L1 and they're the exact same book.
edit: I'll try to find the video again to be absolutely sure.

Thanks! I read somewhere on these forums that Assimil said the "new" German with Ease course would be a translation of the French L'Allemand course. I sent an email to Assimil for clarification, so I should find out tomorrow morning. I'll post the response as soon as I receive it for future reference.

They haven't released the French L'Allemand course in English translation yet. The new
course has a picture of a blonde teenager with a German flag painted on her cheek and
Lebkuchenherzen, the old one has a picture of a castle and blonde woman in her 20s.

That's what I figured. Amazon had the release date as May 14th, 2013 and claimed it was the "new edition" so I bought it. I still haven't gotten a reply from Assimil about this. I wonder when it will be released? Sometime in 2013 I assume since it is in their catalog.

I own two copies of the latest edition: "L'allemand" in French, as well as its translation in my native language (Italian): "Il tedesco".
The new edition has 100 lessons.
Here are a few titles of lessons, so that you'll be able to compare them with the ones in the book you have just received.
Lesson 1 - Viel Glück!
Lesson 2 - Im Hotel.
Lesson 25 - Ist Ihr Terminkalender auch zu voll?
Lesson 50 - Anzeigen für Ferienwohnungen
Lesson 75 - Was der Bauer nicht kennt, isst er nicht
Lesson 100 - Ende gut, alles gut
Best regards.

Did assimil ever reply to you? Maybe I've just been fortunate, but they always get back
to me the next business day when I send in a new query. I've never gotten an answer to
a follow-up email in the same conversation, though. So that could be it if they never
got back to you.
Either way, the new German only has a few months left to be out on time! Same with with
the new Spanish with Ease. Though, I did get an email from them in April about a delay
in the new Arabic with Ease:
Quote:
This is to inform you that our updated "Arabic with ease" will be publish at
the beginning of 2014.
This is to confirm you that it will be the adaptation of our French course l'"arabe"
and it will teach only the modern standard arabic. |

To anyone reading this, keep in mind this is all in reference to English-base courses.

Here is the response I got this morning when inquiring about the new English base
German
Quote:
Hello,
Thank you for your message.
German will be published in november 2013.
It will be an entirely new course, based on the french version “Allemand”.
we remain at your disposal,
Best regards

So, there you go. You have just enough time to finish the passive wave and a good chunk
of the active wave of another language while waiting ;)
