I'll be interested to see how it goes.
Although I'm currently teaching a pre-intermediate course, which is basically the one that takes them from A2 to B1, and the subjects of the tests in English are way more complicated than the example in the video I just saw. I'm doing the first speaking test tomorrow, which is still at A2 level, and the students are required to talk about a mistake they made in the past in detail and tell me what they learned from it. They're then expected to have a discussion with a partner about what characteristics are important for various jobs. To be fair, the video only mentioned the first half of the oral test, but it was pretty basic stuff (as you'd expect after just 7 days). Are the subjects you're expected to talk about on the Goethe Institut test common knowledge? Because I imagine it's not impossible to get someone to B1 level when they're talking about a particular subject, without being able to string two sentences together about anything else. I can't believe anyone could learn enough vocab in 2 weeks to be able to talk to B1 level on a variety of different subjects. Here's a sample oral test for German B1, and it seems that they do go into much more complicated stuff. Something about a hospital and arranging a time (my German isn't good enough yet). You can get sample tests from Goethe from their website. The oral test sample that I looked at was to
describe and talk about a picture for six minutes if I remember correctly. A lot of people cram for exams and then promptly forget it as soon as the exam is over so I'd imagine unless she continues to have lessons it will all be forgotten rather quickly - but she'll have the certificate! This is a very good point, and it seems to happen quite a bit. Does anyone know the mother language of this lady? Her English is quite excellent, so she already has at least 2 really strong languages, which is a bonus. I think she has a good shot at making it. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

From the website, it has a 80 day 5000 euro course with a B1 exam pass guarantee.
It says 5x 1h per week 1.5h homework each! day. That is 2.5h per day. I would not think I could go to A0 to B1 pass with even double this amount of work. 2 persons have voted this message useful | |||

Just watched the latest video and he does say that she's working about 7 or 8 hours a day on it. I'd be interested to see a breakdown of that.
