Hello everyone,
I have decided that I really want to learn the Lebanese dialect of Arabic. Since this is a pretty 'unknown' language, there are pretty scarce resources in order to start this language. My main reason to learn this language is because of my family heritage. The resources that I have started to use include: -Spoken Lebanese by M. Feghali -Hiibanajem's videos on YouTube These resources are really good, but since I am a beginner, I find these really hard to follow Any advice or help will be extremely grateful. 1 person has voted this message useful | |

Lebanese Arabic is similar to the Arabic spoken in Syria, Palestine, and Jordan. Collectively it is known as Levantine Arabic, and it is sometimes referred to as Eastern Arabic. It would be a good idea to use other materials that deal with Levantine Arabic since the courses that focus exclusively on Lebanese Arabic are limited.

I have looked at courses specifically for Levantine Arabic, such as Pimsleur's Eastern Arabic Course, but
courses like this are more targeted towards the Palestinian and Jordanian dialect. Although they are similar to Lebanese Arabic, there are differences in conjugation and pronunciation of words. I know what you mean by saying that resources are limited, so that's why I started this topic, since I didn't know how to approach it and wanted some guidance. 'Arabic You Need: A Beginner's Course in Spoken Arabic' by Nadia Harb isn't a bad

Check out this blog, even though it seems dead now, the archived content is really great for Lebanese/Syrian/Jordanian/Palestinian dialects (there are even posts on other dialects). Some of the content is fairly advanced, some of it especially the earlier posts could be of use to you.

BTW, Donovan is working on an Arabic dialects website. He's already uploaded some demo clips for a varietey of Arabic dialects, including Levantine, to SoundCloud.
