This year at school, I decided to take a Spanish class online. I decided to put Korean
on hold, and try to learn more about how we are taught languages. See what I don't like about the class, or what I like and then apply those to Korean. Anyway, I do enjoy my Spanish classes a lot, and I am doing pretty well. I just have a problem to understand when my teacher talks to me in a casual way. Spanish sounds fast and I need to hear it to get familiar with the pronunciation, speed, etc. So I was wondering if any of you had recommendations for movies in Spanish, or songs.. or podcast or anything that could help me? Check out Destinos, a TV series made for Spanish learners. It starts out easy and
gradually gets more difficult each episode. By the end you'll have lots of listening practice under your belt. The other ideal option is to watch your favourite show dubbed into Spanish. Unlike Destinos you'll be throwing yourself straight into the deep end , but it'll certainly get you used to listening to fast speech. I second Destinos! It's a great resource. It's a bit dated, but if you can laugh off the shoulder pads, you'll be
amazed at how much it helps. Here are my favourite resources for learning to listen to Spanish: Destinos 52 half-hour videos for beginners. Spanish closed captioning can be turned on or off. (I recommend leaving it off.) Mi Vida Loca Interactive video course for beginners. Includes full transcripts. 24 half-hour(ish) episodes. Notes in Spanish Conversational podcast about a variety of different topics. Dozens and dozens of 10-minute episodes. I recommend starting with intermediate (if you're ready) and then moving on to advanced. I never tried the beginner podcasts, but they have a lot of English. I started with intermediate about 3/4 of the way through Destinos. The podcast is free, but the transcripts are only available for purchase. Extr@ 13-episode sitcom for learners, complete with laugh track. The story is a bit silly and vapid, but it's cute and engaging. The actors speak slowly and clearly. Drama Fever Spanish-language TV shows for native speakers. English subtitles can be turned on or off. Good for listening to full-speed Spanish, although I think the other resources that I mentioned will be more important at the beginner/early intermediate stage. My favourite shows on DramaFever so far are: Fragile, Missing, Isabel, The Time in Between. I *wanted* to like The Escape (near-future prison break story), but the ending was just soooo bad.
