I have a friend that's interested in learning Spanish. Are there any free websites dedicated to this, maybe something like Deutsche Welle is for German? He wants something a little more than Duolingo.

I'm also going to tell him about FSI (it didn't cross my mind when I was actually talking to him). Thanks guys

Please do your friend a favor and direct him to the "Language Transfer Spanish" course (Google). It will be a great start for him. He could then jump right into FSI. Also, Destinos episodes are helpful, they will support his learning and are free as well.

All the best,

For many, many authentic and interesting articles in Spanish with high-quality, accurate audio, have your friend try:

Veinto Mundos

It does not provide complete translation but if you hover the mouse over underlined words, you get the translation of those. Use a pop-up dictionary for the others.

It is free. The material is excellent. There is lots of it.

Here are some great lists of free resources! :) I recently stumpled upon them and think that they're a great help for finding more useful learning material in Spanish.

1). 60 Resources

2.) 50 Resources

Personally, I would recommend things like podcasts for beginners (Notes in Spanish & Spanish Obsessed) and easy shows (Extr@ on youtube and Destinos). I also really like LingQ, but I only use it to read the free texts with audio.

Welcome to the forum, Shouko. That was one of the most useful first posts I've seen on the forum. Thank you for the link to the lists.

Ah, thank you! :') Usually I'm just lurking on the forum, but thought I could at least help with some ressources, haha.

Although with what is listed above, you'll have more than enough, one resource that I find wonderful but doesn't
seem to be mentioned around this forum is Lingualia. You can work from it from their website or from the mobile
app. There is a paid version, which biggest bonus is that it offers audio to the dialogues in the courses. However,
the unpaid version is fantastic. It's much more detailed and in depth than the Duolingo app for instance. It has
levels for A1, A2, B1, and B2, with 50 lessons in each. It uses lots of colloquial vocabulary and natural sounding
expressions, with a focus on Peninsular Spanish. You get 200 dialogues in total, lots of vocabulary, concise
grammar explanations, and some other cool features you can access on the web version. I swear I'm not a
developer of this app, I just think it's really well done and an incredible resource that deserves a mention.
