Assimil's courses are often suggested to someone who wants to learn French with a program based in Spanish. I'm wondering if there are any other good Spanish based French courses. I'm particularly interested in any all audio French courses with a Spanish base.

Vaughan Systems and El Mundo are rolling out a French Course. . The Vaughan Systems English courses have a wonderful reputation and I bet this course will be good. It looks book intensive, however.

I am also aware of the old Berlitz Piense En Frances Hable En Frances which are essentially monolingual (entirely in French except the directions).

Are there any Pimsleur-ish or Michel Thomas-ish courses for learning French with through a Spanish base?

I have not tried any of the sites below; however, here is a short list of Introductory French courses/lessons from a Spanish Base:

Saber Francés

Aprendre Francés Facìl

Google: Aprender Francès

Amazon.com Aprender Francés

Amazon.es (espagna) Aprender Francés

From reviewing the offerings above, it seems to me that there is nowhere near the variety of material for learning French from a Spanish base as exists for learning it from an English base. Nor does there seem to be material that offers much depth. IF I wanted to learn French from a Spanish base, I would use...

Francés para Dummies
I would begin by reviewing "Francés para Dummies" and I would play around with one of the FREE websites. Once I were reasonably comfortable with French pronunciation and the basics of French grammar (excluding the more complex verbs), ...

Assimil El Francés. I would continue with Assimil's basic and advanced El Francés courses.

Bonne chance et bon courage!

PS: I notice that the "Francés para Dummies" is currently out-of-stock on Amazon.COM. It is available on Amazon.ES or directly from the publisher Para Dummies. If you click on the link providing more details of the "Francés para Dummies" book, you'll find some sample audio files!

You might want to take a look at "Curso de Francés" published by Planeta de Agostini. From beginning to advanced, this is an extensively serious course but it is not like Pimsleur or Michel Thomas.

There is another excellent course entitled "El francés para todos" published in the 1980's by Editorial Delta from Spain. This program can take you to an advanced level.
