Sorry if I upset the Russian members of the forum. I didn't mean to imply that the entire country was behind the times.
It is just strange that the files on russianbooks.ulitka.com download at 12kB/sec. It is not my connection, since the files from liberliber download at over 300kB/sec. Either it is something I am doing wrong or the supplier has restricted the speed for some reason. The files for the Akunin I was trying are also split into 2-3MB sections of about 5 minutes spoken word each, so there are 125 files for the entire book, some of them duplicated! I think I will just give up and buy it.

Alright, thanks!
BTW, are the RAI recordings abridged?

The 'Terzo Anello' ones are heavily modified, and basically turned into radio plays; narrative description is largely taken out.
The 'Fantasticamente' series tentatively seem much better (I've only checked out a few seconds of the first Tolstoj one: it matches the text at http://www.readme.it/libri/9/9004020.shtml exactly, as far as my limited listening shows).

I can't find your original thread that you had started, so forgive me if this is repeat. I've just found an all-inclusive website with Russian parallel texts with audio.
http://www.sussex.ac.uk/Units/russian/Ruslang/authors.html
I right-click to open the parallel text in a separate window. And I tried listening while reading in English. It's strange: I listened and read in Russian, and I understood, passively. I even shadowed it with Russian text. But only while listening and reading in English that I actually made a connection. I will forever now know that oko za oko, zub za zub means eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth. I would never have imprinted that in my brain otherwise.
This is after a two minute listen.
I also found some Russian texts here:
http://www.lib.ru
Mikhail Bulgakov's page actually as some English translations.

Thanks! I'm not adding lib.ru to the main post, as it's of mixed legality, but I'll add az.lib.ru, a subdomain devoted to public domain Russian classics.

I posted some weeks ago on the "Links & Internet Resources" section of this forum:
www.wordproject.org
which contains the Bible (both audio and script) in:
* Portugues,
* Spanish,
* French,
* Russian,
* Italian,
* Mandarin traditional,
* Mandarin simplfied, and
* Mandarin romanized
Maybe it's a good idea to include this link in this audiobooks catalog, just in case someone is interested in.
