Can someone please recommend good films for the learner of German?

So far, I have the following in my collection, and want to buy more

Lola Rennt
Das Leben der Anderen
Das Experiment
Das Boot
Anatomie

PS.. I apologize if this isn't the correct category for posting, but the rest were too specific, and General Discussion sounded... well.. general..

Recently, half-documentary movies have been popular here. That is movies that feature a few original characters or a few non-confirmed happenings while trying to paint an entirely accurate picture of a historic event. Movies in that category:
- Der Untergang - about the last days of the Third Reich
- Die Luftbrücke - about the air bridge when the Soviets were blocking Berlin
- Dresden - about the bombing of the city during the 2nd world war
- Das Wunder von Bern - about winning the soccer championship 1954 (not just for soccer fans, contains a lot of post-war feel, e. g. illustrating the problems of returning POWs, broken-up families, lone mothers, kids without childhood etc.)
- Das Wunder von Lengede - about a mining accident burying several miners.

Other movies to watch:
- Der bewegte Mann - comedy about life, sex, transvestites (careful: lots of slang and I haven't found a subtitled version yet - let me know if you do)
- Knockin' on heavens door - about two guys that suffer from an untreatable disease
- Feuerzangenbowle - classic. Traditionally people gather at least once a year in order to watch this movie and drink Feuerzangenbowle (hot spiced wine with rum and sugar). The movie itself is not all that extraordinary, it's a comedy about a famous writer returning back to school incognito.

Also try the TV series "Türkisch für Anfänger" about a German-Turkish family. It received several awards, e. g. for its treatment of multicultural issues.

I would also recommend "Der Schuh des Manitu" because it's quite funny and was extremely popular here, but it's hard for foreigners to get it because it's a parody of Karl May stories and/or Karl May movies and the main actors don't speak Hochdeutsch (though their dialect is not so bad that it wouldn't be understood across Germany).

Aguirre, der Zorn Gottes
Nirgendwo in Afrika

If you want to really test your patience, I'd suggest (not recommend!) Deutschland im Herbst.

And I second Gegen die Wand. Fantastic film.

I don't know the exact name in German or in english, but there's a couple of Win Wenders' Films that have an easy German for us. I go to traslate since the Spanish name:

The sky above Berlin (perhaps can be: The heaven above berlin)
So far and so close

To be sure, search Films by Win Wenders
