I think you should watch the Leonid Gayday's films - The diamond hand, 12 chairs, Caucasian prisoner or new Shurick's adventures, Ivan Vasilyevich changes a trade. And there are some more new films - Piter FM, Unhappy Sasha, The land of deaf. If you want I can upload some of these films on my FTP and then you will be able to opportunity to download them.

One Russian film I would recommend is "Русская игра" (2007). I watched it on RTR Planeta a couple of weeks ago and the whole setting (19th century inn in the countryside) in all of its authenticity just blew me away.
The film is about an Italian swindler who comes to Russia to make a fortune in cheating people out of their money in card games, but then he happens to meet three Russian swindlers... 1 person has voted this message useful | |

Films from the Soviet times are the best. We've hardly produced anything decent in the last 20 years. The best and most loved films are by Eldar Ryazanov and Leonid Gaidai. But they're mostly comedies and the humour can be a bit difficult to understand for people of other cultures...
My favourite films are (well, not only mine, there are hardly any Russians who don't love these) Служебный роман Кавказская пленница Весна на Заречной улице Иван Васильевич меняет профессию Гусарская баллада Баллада о солдате Операция "Ы" Девчата Бриллиантовая рука Ирония судьбы или с легким паром Шерлок Холмс Место встречи изменить нельзя Офицеры 12 стульев and so on, and so forth =) Mosfilm uploaded a lot of those with English subs onto their youtube channel. 2 persons have voted this message useful | |

Well, the soviet movies are the best, but there are some good ones from the recent years too.
1. Мама не горюй It will be either too easy or too hard to get the language, but the movie is very funny. It is about some criminals in search for the guy who crossed their way. 2. Изображая жертву Unusual and sometimes absolutely hilarious movie. Just to give you something it is a movie about a guy who works as an victim impersonator for police investigations. But the actual comedy (or tragedy) isn't in the story but in the characters. 3. На море I don't like most of nowadays movies, but this one was very good, very truthful and funny. It is a story of the vacation of several russians at the sea side. 4. Д'Артаньян и три мушкетера Soviet musical film based on The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas. 2 persons have voted this message useful |
