Do you mind if I ask what it is you didn't like about New French with Ease? I was thinking about working on that next, but if you think it is not too good, maybe I should reconsider. |

Well, I can't really say that I didn't like it because I didn't give it a fair chance. I made a few lessons and I didn't feel that I learned anything except some phrases. Since many seem to have suceeded with New French with Ease I don't doubt the method but it don't fit my needs for the moment, I want to learn so much as possible - grammar, vocabulary, reading, writting and listening - in a short time to prepare myself for my French course (a course which I soon have finished on my own ... that says everything about the language courses in school). A textbook which is designed for this course I'm going to take seemed like a better choice. And I didn't have time for testing various methods so I just took a safe card.
I haven't tried anything else from these series so I don't know if there are big differences between different languages. You have to ask somebody else, but if it isn't, I don't see why you shouldn't go with New French with Ease since you found the Italian course good.

Friday 8th August
Latin: Read through the chapter very thoroughly and made pensa. I think I understood everything today. Tomorrow I'll make the pensa again and the exercita to this chapter and perhaps peek a little on the next chapter.
French: Finished Unité cinq and made some repetition. And I also noticed that Bowie actually sings some French at the end of All the madmen. Something like "Sane sane sane, ouvre le chien". :D
English: Watched Flesh (I found it quite hard to hear what they say, perhaps they talked weird or it was the bad quality), a Dexter episode and read about 20-30 pages. Aaa, that is comfortable studies...
Okay, I've been tired today. I've studied in generel about five to six hours since I started this log and I didn't feel particulary entusiastic when I woke up this morning, which is understandable. I have three unites left of my textbook and there is ten days left till school starts, but I think I'll keep up with the high speed and then focus on doing the extra texts for every chapter and repeat, and hopefully the most stuff I've covered will stay in my brain, altough I've stuffed it in fast.

Saturday 9th August
Latin: Once again read through the chapter a couple of times and made the two first exercita.
French: Unité 6. Tomorrow it's repeatition day.
English: Watched a Dexter episode.
The day didn't turn out as planned, I had to help my dad with digging (we are building a terrace). So I didn't get so much time as I had counted with. But I wasn't so tired today at least. But I'll probably be tomorrow if I don't go tot sleep now...

Sunday 10th August
Latin: Read through and listened to the chapter. Made all exercita and pensa one more time. I'm starting to feel finish with this chapter now. I guess I won't be able to keep the same pace I have had since now it's starting to get hard, in the other chapters there hasn't been so much new for me.
French: Repeated the two latest chapters. I needed that. French have been VERY frustrating but I haven't really realized how much I have learned. Before I started this log I didn't now a single word but now I can read simpler texts. My listening skills are however not so good. But as soon as I've finished this textbook I'm going to tackle it somehow.
English: Watched a Dexter episode.

Monday 11th August
Latin: Read through chapter six and made the pensa again.
French: Unité 7.
English: Watched one Dexter episode.
thuesday 12th August
Latin: Began on a new chapter, yay! This one was easier than the previous, after the second time I read it I understood almost everything. Tomorrow I'll do the pensa and of course read the chapter, that's the key to this method: read, read and read! And read. And read. OK, I'll stop now. And read. Just one more time: read. Why am I doing this? Read. Perhaps all reading is driving me craaaaazzzzzzyyy or I'm just bored for the moment. :P
English: Read about 30 pages in Carrie.
French: Unité 8. The last chapter. :) I've had some troubles with my computer and mnemosyne and the my database with all vocabulary entries (it was about 400) are gone. Which is a shame, because I hadn't memorized all words good enough. I'll go through all chapters and write up the words I don't remember fast enough tomorrow. And I have began to draft on my new study plan but I'll present it tomrrow. :)

Wednesday 13th
Latin: Read the chapter a couple of times, made the pensa.
English: Memorized new words from Carrie and watched two Dexter episode.
French: Went through the whole textbook and made sure that I've got everything.
In French I'll start to read a book in francais facile. ;) It is in composed in 800 words, I probably have a vocabulary of something around 200 words, so it will be a lot of locking up in the dictionary in the beginning. I'll also begin to dig a little deeper in French grammar. I have however not planned anything specific, I think I'll just learn what I encounter in the reading of this book, which title by the way is Au service du Roi par Alexandre Dumas. In the mornings, on the bus to school (which start the next week) I'll listen to Learn French with Michel Thomas. I'll also in time try to do some writing, just write a meaning now and then. I always keep with me a notebook in case I should come up with a literary masterpiece (which happens quite often!, well, I usually consider it a masterpiece in about a few days at least). I can scribble some French in that notebook when I don't have anything better to do. And I'll of course have my French classes but I don't expect much from them.
I'll try this the rest of the week and see if it works.
I'm very motivated and my relation to the French language has dramatically changed. When I started with French my goal was basically to get a lead before my French course so I could get good grades without putting so much time in it and instead focus on harder courses. But now I actually want to learn the language for real.
My plan for the future in Latin is to stick with Lingua Latina and aim at complete one chapter per week. That is perhaps quite slow but I'll probably not have so much time when school starts. When I've completed the tenth chapter I'll by a CD with all exercita and answers (I have only had the exercises) and go through the first ten chapters.
In English I really don't know what to do. Guess I'll keep reading. I will not have time to study grammar. Guess that have to wait till I get holiday.
And no, I don't expect you to care about or even read this. I just write it for myself. But of course you are allowed to read and care. :)
Good night.

Friday 15th August
Latin: Read the chapter two times and made the pensa.
French: Chapter 2 and 3 of Learn French with Michel Thomas. Read and understood almost everything of a news article. Listened to the news, I didn't understood much, just a few words then and then. They talk damn fast! I ditch my book, it is more interesting reading articles in French, so I'll do that instead.
English: Watched a hell lot of movies. Another boring day... I think my movie watching without subtitles have aid my listening skills a lot, before I couldn't barely watch a movie without subtitles (English or Swedish - it didn't matter), but now it's no problem at all. I actually prefer to watch without subtitles, one can focus on the whole picture better.
