Welcome back to the forum Chris. I have both your Indonesian and Malay books and found them both to be excellent. I have also picked up some Indonesian textbooks at a local Salvation Army store for a couple of dollars each, complete with audio CDs and CDRoms.
Congratulations on your excellent textbooks.

Well, thank you very much. I'm glad you enjoyed them and found them useful. Thanks also for taking the plunge and buying tem in the first place.
More advanced Malay/Indonesian materials are difficult to come by, but I did include a few suggestions in the 'Taking It Further' section of TY Malay.

Hi Chris. I've also been using your Teach Yourself Malay, with some success.
Since you're on the forum, and this is a topic about the Teach Yourself complete courses including the audio, could I ask a question about the audio for Teach Yourself Malay? The lady who appears in lesson 2 and introduces herself in Malay as Serena has a most peculiar accent, in fact to me she sounds like she's from Somerset. I'm able to reproduce the accent easily and get a kind of aesthetic pleasure from doing so; but I'm afraid I might sound a bit odd.
Is this a standard pronunciation for Malay, or is it some regional accent? She doesn't sound like any of the other characters.

Hello Ichiro
I'm glad you're making progress.
I think I know where you're coming from here. All the Malay speakers on the CD are native speakers and professional voices. However, neither of the female voices trill the 'r' sounds, which is why you may find the accent a little odd. You can do so, or not do so, as you like. Personally I prefer to trill mine because it feels weird not to do so after learning Indonesian. You are learning standard Malay, though, I assure you.
Chris
