What are the best tools and programs to use for learning french? Listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The whole thing.

All advice is appreciated.

I think the old and new versions of Assimil French are the best courses I have seen and use them with French in Action where you have books, video and audio.

After working through them you should be fluent.

Speaking of Assimil French, is there a difference between French with Ease and New French with Ease? I know that the original French without pain is completely different but am curious to know how much did they change when they edited French with ease.

The main difference is they added more lessons. The books are very similar. Just a word or two has been changed in some lessons.

Agree with fanatic. I would add Michel Thomas as a good place to start.

I really liked Klett's "Découvertes" the green édition when we used it at school, but I don't know how good it is for self-study. (The grammar books are really cool and I also had the programm at some point, which was nice for revision.)
But than again it might be French/German only, though there might be an English version.

(I liked none of the ASSIMIL courses I've seen so far, by the way.)
