I am looking at a couple of courses and before I purchase them, I would like the views of the all-knowing forum :p
First one is "Practise makes perfect" series of books for both Grammar and Vocabulary
How is it presented?
What exercises are in it?
Does the course actually work?
Is any other study of the contents required beyond the book itself?
Second is the BBC courses in Spanish, French and German: Suenos, French Experience and Deutche plus.
What would you say about these courses?
Do they work?
If not, is it a good resource.
Thanks muchly

Hi Tel
The only book on your list I have is Practice Makes Perfect Spanish Verb Tenses by Dorothy Richmond.
I use it more as a reference book than anything else but it has a lot of exercises if that’s what your interested in.
I think this book is a good complement to another course e.g. Assimil but I wouldn’t rely on it solely to learn Spanish.
Amazon lets you look inside the book so you can see the table of contents and the first chapter.

Cheers Draoicht. Will look on Amazon :)
How does it compare to, for example, Schaums?

Lord, could you please try and find a more descriptive title for this thread? Apart from urgency, it does not say anything about its contents. Thank you.

The BBC courses are very good quality. I'd also look for the older ones, as in a lot of ways I think they are better. The sound byte approach with jingles annoys me on the new ones, but they are good courses in my opinion.

I have used several of the Practice Makes Perfect for Spanish. They are nice workbooks with plenty of exercises and clear explanations. I also like that they are written with a clear sense of humor-the exercises have some humorous content. The explanations are also clearly written. I am basing this on having used the PMP books on Pronouns and Prepositions, Verb Tenses, Grammar, and Vocabulary. They are reasonably priced and I used them to supplement the spoken courses. They provide"homework" in reading and writing/spelling.I would not consider them a stand alone type of program.
