I think combining a textbook with a website would be better than just having a textbook; this is obvious.
Textbooks often don't have enough exercises, and if they do, all the exercises are put at the end of each chapter. It would be better to have prompts(exercises) after each grammar point, not waiting towards the end of the chapter because by then you might only have a vague understanding.
It's pretty common now that textbooks, at least at the freshman/sophomore level, have websites to help in understanding the material. So it's pretty strange that Assimil, Michel Thomas(the series), Pimsleur, or any big player in language learning, hasn't caught on yet. I believe Assimil has a website option, but as far as I know, the material is just cut and paste from the actual little book and CDs.
Michel Thomas and Pimsleur especially need websites for internalizing the material because it's hard to review grammar/vocab by going to a particular point on the CD. It's like they just don't care. Each language should have a website for material for those who completed the courses, but these companies just care if you bought their CDs. After that, they don't care if you succeed or not. So when I see websites that accompany textbooks, I at least know that the publishers are not just after your money, but instead really care if you internalize the material. &nb sp;
