For a C2 level in German, to be able to understand all kinds of allusions and parodies,
you need to pick up a lot of random cultural knowledge, which is "general knowledge"
in Germany. Well, I just found a Youtube playlist that will make your job a bit easier.

http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=9B1771578052FB7E contains pretty
much every piece of music and many TV clips that are "general knowledge" in Germany, up
to the year 2000 (and very few unrelated clips, like the squirrel one). Just watch a
random item and google for background information, or ask a German.

Warning: some of the featured music is "Neue Deutsche Welle", for which I won't sign
responsible. However, this is really the essence, the stuff everybody knows.

Thanks for this list, it looks really good! I have been looking for German language videos on YouTube, and I've found some good ones but, more often, just a lot of irrelevant stuff.

One day I watched a lot of Horst Schlämmer and his "Yes Weekend" campaign - that was funny!

I know Neue Deutsche Welle means The New German Wave (Craze?) But what exactly is it? I hear rappers say it all the time.

It's a type of German music, a movement. It's often abbreviated to NDW. Just look for
stuff tagged NDW on Youtube.

http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liste_geflügelter_Worte is another place to learn
about "winged words" (recognized phrases which may be used as idioms, like chengyu), some
of which are based on songs but many also that come from literature or a famous person's
saying.
