My ultimate goal for German is to have a basic fluency, enough to keep a conversation going for a while (maybe an hour at least) and to be able to express myself fully or near to it.

I recently (yesterday) threw away two ways of learning German since I found them to be not so helpful. They are the Deutsche Welle and Pimsleur language learning programs. Deutsche Welle sets stadards for learning way too high (or I am just not studying the right way) and Pimsleur is the most obnoxious audio language learning program I have ever used, other than Rocket German. I have picked up Living Language due to recommendations around this site.
