I recently started learning German, so I found it very pleasant to discover that the Total Annihilation Challenge starts soon.
As mentioned before, the language is German, of wich I haven't done much study yet except 8 units of Assimil and maybe 3 hours of L/R with Harry Potter und der Stein der Weisen. For me the challenge is starting today, namely the 28th of April 2008.
I'll post from time to time to report progress..
Good luck to everyone else taking part in this challenge!
Viel Glück!! (hopefully I got that right :)

Today I went through Assimil units nine and ten and also reviewed the eight preceding units. Apart from that I browsed Wikipedia for about a hour and a half to learn the numbers 1 to 20.
I'll be quite busy for a few days so I'll focus on Assimil. The grammatical aspect of German is getting quite familiar to me now and in that aspect I suspect Assimil will pay off very well of all the hours I put in it. Vocab still looks very foreign.. Can't understand much at all of a real text.

April 29: Did elfte lektion of Assimil. This one did feel a little bit harder than the past lektionen. I'm doing scriptorium for each too.
All in all, about 40 minutes of active study and 1 hour passive (listened some Knorkator and read the wikipedia article on "Infected Mushroom" :)

May 2: Didn't do anything except the usual passive listening, as I felt sick and couldn't concentrate on anything.
May 3: Did Assimil 17.

Past days: Crazy busy, so only reviewed past Assimil lessons.
May 7: Assimil 18 and scriptorium.
Also, I entered some sentences in Anki. I'm going to try the "audio sentences" method of SRSing stuff. The idea and the method itself is very well explained here: http://www.alljapaneseallthetime.com/blog/chinese-project-no tes-10-big-developments-anki-text-to-speech-cantonese-victor y-calendar
The sentences are converted to audio with text-to-speech software. The accuracy is actually very good, and certainly much better than my own German. We'll see how it goes.

May 8: Assimil 19 and 20.
Listened to some songs and read a bit of "Le Petit Prince" (in German of course).
This have been going pretty gradually since I started, but I think a breakthrough has been made recently. I'll post more in a few days.
