Thanks for the comment, unzum ^_^ I'll use your idea of a daily chart(but on paper).
My goals for Korean and Chinese are relatively low. I'd like to reach a point between beginner and intermediate. A good grasp of grammar and about 2000-3000 words. Then I can decide what to do from there. At that level, I'll hopefully be able to make sense of Korean and Chinese texts if I need to. For Japanese, my goals are still lower than native fluency. I basically want reading and listening comprehension. Speech and writing...whatever I develop as a result of input will be okay. I think in Japanese everyday, and I plan to read things out loud to practice my speech some more. Since I study as a hobby, my goals are input based...since I don't have practical use for knowing foreign languages. I actually think it would be easier(communication and comfort wise) to continue using "sign language" and writing kanji at work, than trying to converse in Mandarin. Strangely. I'll try to do at least 3 of the following activities everyday, for the daily chart. [jpn]Review and learn 40 new vocabulary words, almost all taken from things I read [jpn]Read the equivalent of 10 pages of whatever I fancy that day. [chn]50 hanzi and their pronunciations [krn]Read and take notes on 10 pages from the bilingual story books. [krn]Read and take notes on Elementary Korean. Now, for a few weeks or so, I've been writing down hanzi in a notebook...it's actually from the book Reading & Writing Chinese(By: William Mcnaughton and Li Ying). Since I was only borrowing it from the library, I wrote down all the 2200 some hanzi and their readings to study afterwards. Writing 2000 of anything can take a while, but now that I've finished, I can actually add hanzi learning to my daily work chart.
May 20 [jpn]46 new words + reviews [jpn]10 pages read [jpn]1 hour of anime May 21 [jpn]54 words + reviews [jpn]1.5 hours of anime *cough* Yes, I am working very hard. May 22 [jpn]60 words + reviews [ch]30 hanzi [jpn]5 pages read [jpn]0.5 hours anime...but I was doing some transcribing. Yarh! Kinda short again here :( My Korean study is a bit stale. There's just so much I need to review before I can really make progress again. Blah, I probably shouldn't have put it on hold for so long(I studied hard for a couple months, and then put it aside for another day. Surprise, surprise, I've forgotten a lot.) May 23 [jpn]50 words + review [ch]20 hanzi [jpn]1 hour anime [jpn] 60ish sentences Now, I got a hold of a collection of about 7000 short Japanese sentences that teach the joyo kanji. I'm using Anki to study them. Each sentence features a a word, which is defined in Japanese. I've returned the Chinese grammar books to the library. I'm just going to focus on studying hanzi for now :)
May 26 [ch]7 hanzi [kr]took notes from Elementary Korean(EK) [jpn]2 hours anime [jpn]read ~10 pages May 27 [kr]took notes from EK [jpn]2 hour movie, Nobody Knows, quite sad [jpn]read ~10 pages May 28 [jpn]read ~10 pages A little vocab review and a little Korean. I couldn't focus very well, and I was traveling around the city trying to get a new computer...I had ordered one to be custom made but I got the wrong one, eh. And today, the right one isn't even working. Maybe I'm not meant to have a new computer T_T Hm, I have many hobbies and interests that I obsess over, but the problem is I can drop a hobby for up to months at a time, randomly. For example, I like making Asian ball-jointed dolls, and for a while I worked on my new doll everyday...but when I finished sculpting, I put him away and left him there. Poor thing, doesn't have clothes or anything. And with Korean, I studied for a while and just dropped it for a few months until recently. I've been good with Japanese lately, though. I've found a doll making site in Japanese that should be good for reading. Maybe it will encourage me to sculpt again. But that's enough rambling for now. 1 person has voted this message useful | |

I got my new computer up and running :D
And as a bonus, the books I ordered online finally arrived. I got JLPT2 study workbooks for Grammar, Vocabulary, and Reading Comprehension. Each one is structured to be studied over 8 weeks, with a two page lesson each day. Since the lessons are short, I can probably do a lesson from each book each day. I also got the DS game that is basically a Japanese dictionary, something I can look up words in while I'm not on the computer. I also got a light novel(jpn) that I already own in English and 3 manga. Ha... Setting up the computer has stolen study time, however.
