This sounds more like Finnish to me unless I strain my ears to pick out the
words... Kinda proves my earlier point that any attempts to speak this
language are... well, highly unnatural.

Yeah, I heard they use a strong Finnish accent. I think it is possible to speak Latin naturally and neutrally. You just need to use the right courses, and listen to the right audio. Like I heard Assimil's Latin course would be a bad course to use since supposely it uses a very French accent. Ardashchir also complained about that courses intonation.

And how would that be?! Let's agree that a word like 'latina' has a 'neutral' [a] sound in it. But the [a] sound for a Frenchman is not the same as the [a] sound for a Finn and again different from the [a] sound naturally coming out of a Italian or a German mouth... If there is no NATIVE STANDARD to imitate, every nation always WILL (and does) add their very thick flavour to the sound.

I rest my case. Written Latin? By all means! Spoken Latin? Give me a break...

Well, since I'm interesting in Ecclesiastical Latin, I have no problem with the Italian pronunciation. That's my standard :)

Hm... I've never thought of it that way but now that you mention it... :-)

Yet with English accents, it's all natural. And Latin speech naturally died.

Despite my tin ears, I seem to be able to make out Latin spoken with Finnish, French, English, and Italian accents. As long as I understand what's being said, I'm not bothered at all.

In the end, it's a question of personal taste. When I hear those accents, I am bothered and think: people, shut up or just speak Finnish or French. I'm less bothered with Italian because they have a reasonable claim of heritage....

I don't think its dead completely. You still have the Catholic Church that uses it. furyou_gaijin, what accent do you have when you speak Latin? Was that really your first language?
