What do you suggest? I want to be able to eventually get to the dialects, but I want to be good enough to converse and read a newspaper in MSA first.

Well, I would use them both. I like the introduction to the dialects that Living Language's Ultimate Arabic gives. I
feel that TY might go more into Standard Arabic than LL, though. All in all, get both if you can.

I agree with IowaHawkeye, get both methods if you can. In my experience (but of course
this is just common sense), no one language programme is perfect, even the good ones. So
having a second makes up for where another one lacks.

Even with dialects it useful to go through a book rather than just to listen to MP3s.
Colloquial Arabic still has structure and form, though a bit simpler than
Standard/Classical Arabic.
