I've been living in Cyprus for a while now and I keep hearing things like "Cypriot dialect sound rougher than Greek" or "I have learnt Cypriot dialect and sometimes I don't even understand proper Greek". My own level of Greek is still too low to recognize the difference: I can perceive it rather intuitively (Cypriot pronunciation does sound a bit harsh in comparison to Greek), but I would like to know more about it - both vocabulary and phonetics. Have you seen any studies or articles regarding the difference between Greek and Cypriot dialects?
